11 Sep What makes FAB-DIS 3.0 all new?
We are pleased to present to you the latest developments in the FAB-DIS 3.0 data standard that we are currently aware of (as of September 2023). This update brings changes to the structure and requirements of the data format, making it even more powerful and adaptable. Let’s take a closer look at the key innovations in FAB-DIS 3.0 compared to FAB-DIS 2.3:
How is FAB-DIS 3.0 Structured?
FAB-DIS 3.0 is still divided into 12 sheets, with 5 of them considered mandatory. Each spreadsheet contains specific information about products and their attributes. Within each table, there are both mandatory and recommended or optional columns. The naming indicates that the data standard continues to use EXCEL as the exchange format.
Changes in the 5 Mandatory Sheets:
B00_CARTOUCHE: Changes: FAB-DIS 3.0 has expanded this sheet with an additional 10 columns (total of 22 compared to 12 in FAB-DIS 2.3).
B01_COMMERCE: Changes: In FAB-DIS 3.0, this sheet has been thoroughly revised and now contains information only on active references. The number of columns has been reduced to 44 (previously 70).
B02_LOGISTIQUE: Changes: There are only minimal adjustments in this sheet compared to FAB-DIS 2.3.
B03_MEDIA: Changes: FAB-DIS 3.0 now accepts more and detailed media types, including BIM objects, photo variants, and videos.
B04_REGLEMENTAIRE: Changes: FAB-DIS 3.0 offers an expanded selection of regulations, and the attribute selection varies depending on the selected regulation.
Changes in the Optional Sheets:
C01_EXTENTION: Changes: Some attributes that were previously in “COMMERCE” in FAB-DIS 2.3 have been moved to this sheet, including country of origin and warranty duration. Additionally, new attributes such as material and color have been added.
C02_CORRESPONDANCE: Changes: This sheet shows possible connections between different articles and has no significant changes compared to FAB-DIS 2.3.
C03_VARIANTE: Changes: Products that differ in various properties such as color or size can still be identified here, with no significant changes from FAB-DIS 2.3.
C04_ETIM: Changes: This sheet contains technical information according to the ETIM classification and shows no significant differences from FAB-DIS 2.3.
C05_ARRET: Changes: In FAB-DIS 3.0, all references no longer in sales, along with their end-of-life date, are listed.
C06_SUBSTITUTION: Changes: This sheet lists replacement references and maintains the same structure as in FAB-DIS 2.3, provided that the information matches the “COMMERCE” sheet.
F01_PYRAMIDE: Changes: This sheet describes the manufacturer’s marketing nomenclature and remains largely unchanged. It allows the exchange of sales statistics by using the MKT columns from the “COMMERCE” sheet.
When to Switch to FAB-DIS 3.0?
These updates in the FAB-DIS standard offer improved flexibility and efficiency in managing product information. The FAB-DIS Association has not yet provided a specific release date, but it is targeted for 2023. Both formats will be accepted for some time. However, as with any new version, it will eventually lead to the older version 2.3 not being accepted by retailers. Therefore, every manufacturer should use the transition period and migrate to 3.0.
We will publish further information on our homepage as soon as it becomes available and look forward to accompanying you on your journey to optimize your product catalogs.
