Agile project management – what’s behind it?

“Oops, Thursday again!”

This is the starting signal for a new round of “Agile Project Management”. At nexoma this means meeting at 9:15 a.m. (currently virtual). Now the upcoming tasks around product data are planned for the next 5 working days – our “Sprint”.

Each developer decides independently on the basis of his experience and skills which tickets or tasks he will take care of in the next few days. Whether CatalogExpress customizations, app developments or Pimcore extensions, each team member has until next Wednesday to work on the tasks.

In the “Daily”, our daily short coordination meeting, we exchange information on the status of the tasks. Also we clarify open questions and briefly discuss problems that have arisen. On Wednesday, the end of the sprint, all assigned tasks are completed. And that works, at least most of the time ;-)!

What does agile project management mean for our customer projects?

Flexibility in the implementation and a quick start into action, these are only two of many advantages for our customers. A lot of time is saved for elaborate planning and the creation of a detailed functional and requirement specification. But agile project management is also advantageous for us as a company. Step by step we approach the custom-fit software solution according to the wishes of our customers. The best thing about it is that our customers help to shape the solution. They are actively involved in our development processes.

Small stages to the desired software solution

At the beginning we divide the project into time stages. At the end of each stage there is a fully functional intermediate product, which our customers can already try out and test. Since our projects are not fully planned at the beginning, it is possible to adapt to new requirements during the project duration. This allows us to consider change requests for the competitive advantage of our customers even late in the development process. On the one hand, this creates the already mentioned flexibility in the additions to the requirements. On the other hand, the customer can also plan his own resources more effectively. They know that a certain amount of manpower will be required in the upcoming Sprint – for a certain period of time. In addition, he knows from which area the staff deployment must come. All other employees can continue to pursue their daily business. More specific planning is therefore possible!

Retrospectives to increase efficiency in the team

Several times during a project as well as after project completion retrospectives take place in the nexoma team. On these dates we anonymously reflect what worked well and what we want to work on to make it better. These “self-reflections” help us to optimize working methods, avoid stress and increase efficiency. Is our agile software development also something for your projects? Please contact us!
